Lecertua cuts the mustard in Dijon!
Dijon, France, June 20th 2023 - The Alpine Elf Europa Cup and its field of thrilling berlinettes arrived at the iconic Dijon-Prenois race track for round four of the season, a super-charged meeting with not just two races but three contests held over the weekend.
A chance for the drivers to enjoy the legendary balance of the A110’s chassis on this hilly, high-speed circuit, one of the most popular race tracks in France. Much had been expected of Belgian driver Lorens Lecertua (Chazel Technologie Course Junior) at his home round in Spa-Francorchamps, but whilst he was consistent, it was his two team-mates Enzo Geraci and Romain Favre (VPS Racing) that had grabbed the honours last time out. Lecertua certainly made up for any disappointment in Dijon-Prenois! With three pole positions in the east of France, two race wins (races 1 and 3) and fourth place his worst result, the former French F4 driver showed his true class at this round. On day one, he was joined on the podium by Favre and Geraci, whilst Geraci finished as runner-up in the final contest of the weekend, ahead of Tim Merieux (Autosport GP), who had also produced a solid fightback in race one, finishing fifth after starting eighteenth on the grid.
Meanwhile, race 2 was won by Adrien Catelin, his maiden victory in the Alpine Elf Europa Cup, ahead of Léo Jousset (Race Cars Consulting). Louis Maurice, team-mate of the winner, finished third, meaning that Code Racing Development claimed two of the three podium places. The Alpine Elf Europa Cup field now enjoys a short summer break, before returning to action in Barcelona on 14-16 September for what promises to be another exciting contest!
Championship update
Belgian driver Lorens Lecertua really made his mark at this meeting, so much so that he has become the new championship leader, ten points ahead of this nearest challenger.
