The rules

Qualifying

As in Moto2, Moto3 riders will have two 40-minute free practice sessions at the end of which a first ranking will be established. Riders ranked after the first fourteen in the combined results of the first two sessions will have a fifteen-minute qualifying session (Q1). The four best times will be admitted to the session bringing together the first fourteen from free practice for a new qualifying session (Q2) which will determine the first eighteen places on the grid. Each row consists of three riders. To qualify, a rider must have set a time at least equal to 110% of the time set by the fastest rider.

Races

The Moto3 World Championship consists of 21 Grand Prix races which are run over a distance of around 100km. Points are awarded to the top 15 finishers according to the following scale: 25, 20, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.

The technical regulations

Introduced in 2012 to replace the 125 class and their two-stroke engines, the Moto3 class is composed of machines with four-stroke engines with a maximum cylinder capacity of 250 cm3. Cylinder diameter is limited to 81mm and maximum engine speed is limited to 14,000 rpm. The electronic management system is common to all bikes and the price of an engine must not exceed 12,000 euros. As in Moto2, each rider has only one machine. Tyres are supplied by Dunlop and their number is limited to 9 fronts and 9 rears per weekend. The weight of rider + bike must not be less than 152kg. The maximum age of riders is 28 years.
